Full disclosure--this is
probably the most narcissistic page on the website. I'm aware of it. Nothing I
can do to help it. Sorry. If you're here, you might also find the Creative

"The DeGraff Debate" columns from The Butler
Collegian
Have you ever read an opinion column in a
newspaper and thought the argument was weak, the writing cold or the grammar
un-English? I've learned never to blame the writer. Instead, blame
the editor--the one who's face isn't above the text. Just kidding.
That said, editors are a funky bunch.
Not to be too ungrateful, but once a
column is submitted, it was out of my hands, and a lot changes were made that seem to add nothing. In the columns I wrote my
Senior year for the Butler Collegian
editors deleted sentences or words
that added clarity. Things like first names, predicates, verbs, whatever,
were chopped off. References to kittens appear inexplicably.
That said, I'm not
perfect, and I never submitted a perfect column. But please don't use these
as final judgments about my ability to write grammatically correct, cogent
sentences. If you want to see it as I wrote it, e-mail me.
