McCartney Math Songs

Oh my, these were written a long time ago, roughly December, 1997ish.  Yeah, that is a long time ago.  These were written as an assignment for my Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus class.  As you read the songs, you'll notice a recurring theme...that's right...sine, cosine and tangents.  I'm pretty sure that we were on that topic at the time, I mean, every song but one mentions one of those three.

Anyway, here are the songs!

"Those Greek Letters" (Silly Love Songs-McCartney)
You’d think that people would have had enough of those Greek letters
Seeing that the language is so very dead, you know

Some people want to fill the world with those Greek letters
What’s wrong with that, I’d like to know
‘Cause here I go again

I love Mu (4)

I need more variables than English gives, now can’t you see?
Ah, Greek gives me more, it gives it all to me, now can’t you see?

What’s wrong with that, I need to know
‘Cause here I go again

I love Mu (2)

You don’t get new letters every minute
It’s really hard to find them at all
I only know that when I find it
Whoa, those Greek letters
Whoa, those Greek letters
Delta, Theta and them all…
Yeah, yeah

{How can I tell folks about variables
How can I tell folks about Greek letters} (2)

I love Mu (2)
{I can try to explain, the letters were plain to me, say can’t you see
Ah, Greek gives me more, it gives it all to me, say can’t you see} (3)

How can I tell you about Greek letters (4)

You’d think that people would have
Had enough of those Greek letters
Seeing that the language is so dead, you know
Some people want to fill the world with those Greek letters
And what’s wrong with that…

"Live and Graph Sine" (Live and Let Die-McCartney)
When you were young
And you graphed
With an open book,
You used to say
Live and graph tangent
{you know you did} (3)
But if this ever changing class
In which you transfered in
Make you want to graph sine
Say live and graph sine
Live and graph sine

What does it matter to you
When you got a graph to draw
You gotta do it well
You better do that graph as good as hell

You used to say
Live and graph tangent
{you know you did} (3)
But if this ever changing class
In which you transfered in
Make you want to graph sine
Say live and graph sine
Live and graph sine

"Sine Sine Sine" (Say Say Say-McCartney/Jackson)
Sine Sine Sine it’s so tough.
So don’t play games, you won’t learn nuthin’
Draw draw draw that graph
But don’t leave it with no direction
All alone, I sit home doing trig, waiting for help, baby
Through the weeks, how can you stand to hear
My pleading for you near, you know I’m crying

Cosine cosine cosine cosine cosine

(Now) tan tan tan where you want
But I’ll be doing this forever

You you you make it sane
But now teach, I see you never

What can I do to get this problem knew
‘Cause it ain’t easy, baby, sitting here
Baptized in all my tears, teach, you know it’s clear
You know I’m crying, Cosine cosine cosine cosine cosine

You never ever worry and you never shed a tear
You sayin’ that functions aren’t hard
Just look at my face, these tears ain’t dryin’

You you you can always say
That the graph of sine, is that of cosine
I pray pray pray every day
That I’ll see things guru like you do
What can I do, coach, to get through to you
‘Cause I need help, teacher.
Sitting here, baptized in all my tears
Teacher, you know it’s clear, you know I’m crying

Cosine cosine cosine cosine cosine
Sine sine sine…
Cosine cosine cosine…
Sine sine sine…

"Cosine Graph" (Yesterday-McCartney/Lennon)
Cosine graph, every time I look you make me laugh.
You haunt me even when I take a bath,
Oh cosine graph so substantial

Suddenly, the graph of cosine looks like that of sine
I’m just trying to make it mine
Oh, this stuff came suddenly

Why they are the same, I don’t know
She wouldn’t say
I drew that graph wrong, now I long for the cosine graph

Cosine graph, you know you’re easier than The Grapes of Wrath
There’s a really cool kid who’s name is DeGraff
Oh I believe in cosine graph
