Press ReleaseMartin Luther King Magnet Students to Walk Out, Citing Teacher’s TransferStudents Distressed Over A Great Teacher’s Being Transferred Against Her WillNashville, May 13, 1998: Martin Luther King Magnet students, citing the impending transfer of teacher Mrs. Susan Scott, have decided to walk out of class between Forth and Fifth Period tomorrow, May 14. Mrs. Scott has influenced many past, and current students so much so, that they have decided to protest the ruling of principal Mildred Saffell-Smith. The walk out will be executed at 12:35 PM, after the completion of 4th period · Seniors, who have Mrs. Scott for AP English IV, Juniors, including Class Vice-President Kenneth DeGraff, author of this release, who take English III from Mrs. Scott and many other students, some of whom had Mrs. Scott as their wrestling and wrestling cheerleading sponsor are all expected to participate. · Concerned parents, in support of Mrs. Scott will also be in attendance · Martin Luther King successfully staged a walk out two years ago, with media coverage, supporting the MNEA in their battle to fight the school board, and raise teacher salaries. · Students are more than willing to use this course of action again, because as one student put it, "Mrs. Scott is a fantastic teacher.” Important Information1. MLKing is located at the corner of 17th and Jo Johnston. From I-40, get off at the Charlotte/Church exit, and turn away from downtown on Charlotte. Turn right on 17th Ave. 2.
